Description

the client invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair of the Lyda Hill Department of Bioinformatics. Established in 2015, the department is a hub for research at the intersection of computer science, computational and systems biology, and biomedical science across basic, translational, and clinical areas. The chair will lead the department into its second decade, advancing discovery through interdisciplinary collaboration and a commitment to innovation.

The chair will recruit and develop excellent faculty across the full scope of bioinformatics, leveraging existing strengths and growing capabilities in genetics and genomics, and artificial intelligence. The role will provide scientific leadership for a highly collaborative, well-resourced department with faculty spanning a breadth of computational and experimental sciences, with research interests ranging from neuroscience to protein structure prediction to image acquisition and analysis to clinical decision-making. The chair will guide the department’s scientific direction and help shape a cohesive, strategic vision that enhances visibility and impact.

Reporting to the Vice Provost and Dean of Basic Research, the chair will oversee day-to-day operations and provide hands-on support for faculty research and scholarship. With a dedicated administrative team in place, the chair will focus on faculty development, long-term planning, and building a vibrant academic culture. The successful candidate will be a scientist with a world-class research reputation and demonstrated commitment to faculty advocacy, mentorship, and collaboration, bringing sound judgment, fiscal acumen, and visionary leadership.
