The client seeks an accomplished, visionary, and collaborative scientist-leader to serve concurrently as Chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and Director of the Institute of Human Virology. This dual leadership role is designed to advance an integrated scientific vision across microbiology, immunology, virology, and human disease research. The successful candidate will lead two academic and research enterprises with complementary strengths, establishing an ambitious scientific agenda, strengthening foundational and translational research, recruiting and developing faculty, and creating new opportunities for interdisciplinary discovery.
As Chair, the individual will provide strategic, academic, scientific, and administrative leadership for the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, including responsibilities related to research and education. The role includes building on existing departmental strengths, supporting the success and development of faculty and trainees, and fostering effective integration with the Institute of Human Virology as well as productive connections with other departments, centers, and institutes within The client. Supporting graduate and medical education is expected to be a meaningful component of the Chair’s contributions.
As Director of the Institute of Human Virology, a central priority is to lead, strengthen, and expand the institute’s laboratory research enterprise. The Director will provide overarching strategic leadership across basic, translational, and clinical research, epidemiology, public health, education, and global health, working closely with leaders of complementary programs to advance the institute’s mission to improve human health through scientific discovery, innovation, and global collaboration. The role also includes assessing current capabilities, setting clear scientific priorities, recruiting and supporting investigators, and cultivating the infrastructure and collaborative environment necessary for sustained research excellence.
