The client seeks an innovative, collaborative, and entrepreneurial leader to serve as the next Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The Chair will report to the deans of the relevant academic schools and will advance the department’s mission to improve healthcare through scientific discovery, the development of solutions for complex problems, and advancements in biotechnology. The role is expected to leverage the strengths of a research-focused university and academic medical environment to drive transformational impact.
The Chair will build on the department’s established interdisciplinary foundation and close collaboration across engineering and medicine within a shared campus setting. With access to a range of research facilities and a community that includes primary faculty, staff, and both undergraduate and graduate students, the Chair will help propel the department to the next level by identifying complementary research and programmatic areas for growth. Emphasis will be placed on areas where the department is positioned for success, including imaging, neuroengineering, cancer, artificial intelligence, and data science, while also supporting new hires and collaborations.
Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate strong leadership in recruiting and cultivating talented faculty, students, and staff, including mentoring and team-building. The Chair should prioritize effective communication of departmental goals and accomplishments to a range of internal and external stakeholders, and should work to raise the department’s profile through strategic recruitment and relationship-building. The selection process will consider complete applications as screening begins immediately and continues until the search concludes.
