the client invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Art and Art History in the College of Fine Arts. This national search seeks an accomplished academic leader at the full professor level to lead one of the largest and most distinguished art and art history departments at a flagship public research university. The role is positioned to provide visionary leadership within a department experiencing momentum, renewal, and stability.
The Chair will lead a department that supports undergraduate and graduate programs across art and art history, including Studio Art and Art History, as well as an undergraduate program associated with Art Education and K-12 teaching certification. Key opportunities include strategic planning for the future, strengthening graduate programs, fundraising and external engagement, and leading innovation to improve student outcomes. The Chair is also expected to strengthen art education while building impactful partnerships and outreach.
Qualified candidates will hold an earned terminal degree appropriate to the field in Art History, Studio Art, or Art Education; be eligible for appointment at the full tenured professor level; and demonstrate a distinguished record of scholarship, creative practice, and/or curatorial work. The role also requires evidence of effective academic and administrative leadership.
