the client invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Anesthesia. This is an opportunity for a visionary, operationally accomplished physician to lead an academic anesthesia program through a period of institutional growth and transformation, helping shape the department’s future and positioning it for long-term excellence across clinical care, education, and research.
the department is a large, clinically essential enterprise with substantial faculty and trainees and a high volume of anesthetic services across multiple tertiary-care sites. The incoming chair will provide strategic oversight for the department’s leadership team, including vice chair roles spanning pediatric anesthesia, clinical affairs, clinical and outcomes research, faculty development, clinical and academic administration, education, and basic science research. the chair will facilitate integration and coordination of anesthesia services within the client’s academic and clinical systems, partnering with other department chairs, system leaders, and service lines to strengthen multidisciplinary care and advance the shared mission.
reporting to senior academic and clinical leadership within the client, the chair will serve as a strategic and unifying leader, delivering innovative operational solutions and cultivating an environment where clinical, academic, and research missions can evolve. responsibilities include promoting recruitment, retention, and professional development; supporting and championing the research mission; and advancing educational programs. candidates must hold an MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent clinical doctoral degree, have board certification in anesthesiology, and present an academic record appropriate for appointment at the rank of professor, with eligibility for licensure in the state where the client operates.
