The client is an independent, non-profit organisation helping households and small businesses across Great Britain understand how smart meters can benefit them and support more reliable, affordable energy outcomes. Through collaborative work with a range of stakeholders, it reaches people throughout the country, including those in vulnerable circumstances, and communicates the impact of smart meter installation and the role of in-home displays in helping people manage energy use and household budgets.
About the role: The client seeks a credible, forward-looking Chair to provide strategic insight and governance expertise. The Chair will promote the organisation’s purpose, support effective decision-making, foster constructive Board dynamics, and serve as an ambassador to stakeholders, helping articulate the organisation’s long-term vision and future contribution to the energy transition.
Key requirements include senior-level experience designing and delivering major consumer engagement, marketing, and communications campaigns—ideally including public-facing, behaviour-change-focused work—and non-executive experience that enables inclusive, constructively challenging Board leadership and scrutiny of annual plans. The role also calls for knowledge of governance best practice, including risk oversight and value for money, as well as familiarity with best practice and emerging trends in marketing and communications to advise the Executive and Board. Candidates must be independent of any energy supplier and any person or body representing the interests of Energy Consumers, and they should have no public affiliation with any political party; the application deadline is Sunday 20 September at 23:55.
