The department sponsors multiple family medicine residency programs and fellowships in Minnesota, training a significant number of residents and fellows each year. With a strong focus on research excellence, the department has been the top NIH-funded family medicine department in the country for the past three years, securing an average of nearly $17 million annually in sponsored funding. Additionally, the department is actively involved in advancing the Medical School's healthy aging strategy, including the establishment of a new interdisciplinary Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Care in collaboration with the Department of Medicine.Reporting to the Dean of the Medical School and Executive Vice President for Health Affairs, the Chair will be responsible for providing strategic leadership for the department's clinical, educational, and research missions. In addition, the Chair will serve as the Family Medicine Clinical Service Unit Leader within University of Minnesota Physicians, playing a key role in overseeing the clinical services provided by the department.
