Description

The client seeks a Chair for the Department of Surgery, leading a large, academic clinical enterprise focused on surgical practice, education, and research. The role will guide a department structured across multiple divisions and sections, with responsibilities spanning patient care quality improvement, exploration of new technologies and clinical approaches, and advancement of departmental excellence across surgical specialties.

The Chair will serve as a strategic, practical visionary with deep experience leading within a matrixed academic clinical environment. This leader is expected to advance a culture of stewardship, transparency, improved business operations, accountability, and effective re-alignment of resources in response to evolving needs, while stimulating faculty aspiration across development, education, clinical productivity, research, and outstanding clinical care. The Chair will also help invigorate excellence in research, recruitment, funding, and partnerships.

The successful candidate is expected to be an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D., board-certified in general surgery, and licensed or eligible for medical licensure in Texas. The client is looking for an entrepreneurial, always-current, collaborative leader who can define key issues, strengthen teams, and work collegially to develop strategic plans, with strong communication skills, capacity for personal influence, and the ability to write scientific and fiscal proposals.
