the client is seeking a Chair for the Department of Internal Medicine. With a focus on advancing patient care, research, and education, the role leads an academic internal medicine department that supports clinical services, scientific investigation, and training programs. The Chair is responsible for strengthening the quality and impact of educational, scientific, and clinical offerings and for ensuring effective leadership and management across the department’s missions.
The Chair will provide strategic, entrepreneurial, and financially astute stewardship, guiding the department through evolving practices and expectations. Key responsibilities include the appropriate and optimal use of human, financial, and space resources to manage the department’s clinical, educational, and research programs; fostering an environment that supports faculty development, education, clinical productivity, research progress, and outstanding patient care; and applying a strong commitment to care delivery, research, education, and advocacy. The Chair is also expected to recruit and develop high-performing clinical specialists and researchers to grow the department’s reputation, research funding, and clinical trial activity, and to promote transparency, effective resource use, and measurable attainment.
Successful candidates will be an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D., board-certified in Internal Medicine, and hold faculty rank as a professor or associate professor. The candidate must be licensed or eligible for medical licensure in Texas and demonstrate nationally recognized scientific achievement, including NIH-funded research.
