The client is seeking a Business Development Director to lead firmwide business development efforts and provide strategic direction for practice groups and key initiatives. The role is based in the client’s Washington, DC office and focuses on collaborating with C-suite and firm leadership to drive growth through priority client and sector identification, pursuit strategy development, and performance tracking.
Key responsibilities include overseeing the annual business development budget process in partnership with practice group leaders and the BD team, and establishing metrics, KPIs, and analytics to measure ROI and improve client development, opportunity tracking, experience management, and data-driven decision-making. The director will also support lateral partner integration through targeted client planning and internal coordination, while delivering hands-on guidance for pitches, RFPs, and key client meetings in collaboration with internal departments.
The successful candidate will have 15+ years of experience in business development within legal and/or professional services, along with demonstrated expertise advising senior leadership. The role requires strong strategic growth planning with measurable outcomes, excellent communication and presentation skills, and strong analytical abilities to evaluate market trends and identify opportunities. The director must also bring proven leadership and team management experience, including coaching partners and senior lawyers and mentoring a high-performing business development team.
