Description

The client is an emerging life sciences technology company building a commercial bridge between experimental biology and advanced artificial intelligence. The client seeks a Business Development Director to help translate differentiated measured biology and computational capabilities into high-value partnerships across AI, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical R&D. This is an early-stage opportunity with meaningful ownership of commercial strategy and direct collaboration with scientific and company leadership to develop and grow targeted accounts.

Key responsibilities include building and advancing a targeted commercial pipeline across advanced AI organizations, biotechnology companies, and pharmaceutical R&D teams; developing relationships with scientific and technical decision makers; and structuring early commercial programs around custom biological data generation and other research deliverables tailored to customer requirements. The role will communicate complex offerings—including biological data, model evaluation, and scientific collaboration—into compelling business cases, shape proposals and program scope, and establish a repeatable business development motion from initial engagement through letters of intent, funded programs, and longer-term relationships.

Successful candidates will have a proven track record closing complex commercial agreements involving biological data, scientific software, model access, evaluations, or funded research programs, along with established relationships that can open strategic conversations with decision makers. The client expects familiarity with scientific topics relevant to drug research, the ability to discuss scientific simulation and molecular modeling with technical buyers, and experience commercializing multimodal biological datasets. Strong judgment is required for data licensing and proprietary data protection, and the role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area with periodic in-person collaboration.
