The client is seeking a Business Development Director to help scale its data and technology solutions for the pre-owned luxury goods industry. The role focuses on identifying and pursuing new partnership opportunities across China and the wider APAC region, including collaborations with retailers (such as department stores and travel retail operators), brands, and luxury goods groups. Partnerships may support initiatives such as operating pre-owned luxury goods stores and enabling brands to manage the end-to-end life cycle of certified pre-owned offerings through distribution channels.
Key responsibilities include developing and implementing a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with growth objectives, and targeting opportunities with partners in department stores, travel retail operators, luxury brands, and groups of brands. The director will build and maintain relationships with senior decision-makers, understand partner needs and challenges, and present tailored solutions. The role also involves educating clients on the benefits of a turn-key solution to enhance brand value and business outcomes, negotiating and closing deals with large organizations, and working cross-functionally with internal teams (such as operations, marketing, and customer service) to support successful partnership implementation.
Candidates are expected to have a proven track record in business development through strategic partnerships, along with strong industry understanding of luxury goods. The ideal profile includes a robust network of contacts at the C-level within relevant retail and brand organizations, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated ability to educate stakeholders on a new business model, negotiate effectively, and close deals with large organizations. The role typically requires substantial experience in business development, sales, or strategic partnerships, and a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field; an advanced degree may be considered a plus.
