The client is seeking a young person aged 18–25 to join its Board of Directors in a Young Persons’ Perspective volunteer role. This is a voluntary position with a term of three years, offering an opportunity to represent young people in volunteering and help shape the future direction and priorities for volunteering in Ireland.
Board members will help set the organisation’s direction and support its goals, values, and mission, including acting in the best interests of The client in matters related to governance and responsible resource use. Responsibilities include contributing to key Board decisions such as plans, budgets, new projects, and policy changes; supporting compliance with relevant laws and regulations; developing policies and strategies; identifying and managing organisational risks; maintaining openness, honesty, and accountability; declaring conflicts of interest; and ensuring the ethical handling of gifts or benefits connected to the role.
In the Young Person-specific role, the person will share young people’s perspectives and experiences to guide volunteering decisions, ensure a young person’s voice is heard by the Board, and support staff who work with young people through mentoring and constructive input. The role calls for strong volunteering experience, active community involvement, active citizenship, the ability to think strategically and plan for the future, curiosity and respectful challenge, commitment to group decisions, strong communication and listening skills, and the ability to stay calm and facilitate constructive discussions under pressure; prior Board experience is not required. Preferred qualifications may include experience leading volunteers, understanding how community and volunteer groups operate, and experience working with committees or panels that involve youth or advisory decision-making.
