Description

The client is seeking a volunteer Board Member with Legal expertise to join their organisation, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Outreach Project (DROP), which provides support services to individuals affected by substance use dependency. The role involves providing strategic guidance on legal matters, assisting in policy review and updating, and actively participating in board meetings to offer insights on legal and regulatory issues. The Board Member will also be expected to serve on at least one subcommittee to drive fundraising and identify new funding opportunities.

The ideal candidate for this role is a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with at least 5 years of experience, preferably in the charity/not-for-profit sector. They should have knowledge of Irish law, regulations, and governance frameworks applicable to the sector, as well as strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills are also required, along with a commitment to the vision, mission, and values of the organisation.

The term of office for the Board Member is subject to an annual performance review at the end of the first year, with the possibility of continuing for an additional three years. The role requires a commitment of 4-6 hours per month to attend board meetings, subcommittee meetings, the Annual General Meeting, and a Board review day. The Board Member will play a key role in supporting the organisation's strategic aims, raising its profile, and contributing to its governance handbook.
