Description

The client is seeking a board member/trustee with finance experience to join its board of directors and serve on the finance board committee. this is an opportunity to contribute to the governance and strategic direction of a registered mental health charity with a broad community program. the role supports a vision, mission, and values-led approach, and includes oversight of program delivery through the board’s program committee.

key responsibilities include ensuring the organization operates in line with its governing constitution, setting and monitoring strategic direction, and providing effective financial oversight through appropriate controls, policies, and procedures. the board member/trustee will help ensure compliance with health service agreements and relevant governance expectations, and will participate in collective decision-making, including setting goals and managing the performance of the CEO.

the finance committee responsibilities include working to develop a finance strategy aligned with overall strategy, overseeing the organization’s finances and financial condition, and keeping the board informed of financial status. the role also involves approving major expenditures, supporting preparation and presentation of financial reports to board meetings, and ensuring best practices and systems for accountability are in place. essential qualifications include senior management and senior financial management experience, strong communication and interpersonal skills, creativity and problem-solving ability, and confidence to challenge constructively; desirable qualifications include board-level experience in not-for-profit and/or mental health contexts and knowledge of relevant charity and company governance requirements. applicants are expected to act with integrity, respect confidentiality, and participate actively in meetings; new directors will receive induction and ongoing training and support as needed, and applicants must be living in the republic of ireland.
