The client seeks Board members to serve in a governance capacity, helping ensure the fiduciary, strategic, and sustainable well-being of the organization. The role is focused on thoughtful problem analysis, the ability to ask challenging questions, and making timely decisions. Board members are expected to think creatively and apply innovative, entrepreneurial approaches to how solutions are developed and implemented while supporting long-term organizational sustainability.
Key responsibilities include acting as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director as the strategic plan is developed and implemented, and participating in Board committees (Internal Affairs or External Affairs). Board members will review outcomes and performance metrics used to evaluate impact and organizational effectiveness, contribute to strategic planning and approve plans as needed, and help oversee major financial and material business decisions by staying informed and meeting legal and fiduciary obligations.
The client also expects Board members to contribute to an annual performance evaluation of the Executive Director, including compensation review, and to support efforts to identify and recruit new Board members. Members will represent the organization to stakeholders and the public as an ambassador, contribute to setting fundraising goals and actively participate in meeting them, and help ensure the Board reflects the diversity of the communities served. The commitment is at least a three-year term, with the potential for two consecutive terms (up to six years total).
