Description

The client is seeking a board member with financial and investment management experience to support investment and the deployment of the charity’s funds. The role includes providing advice to the board on investment decision-making, overseeing relationships with investment managers (including recommendations for their appointment or reappointment), and working with the executive team to help ensure quality financial reporting. It also involves ensuring that investment decisions align with the organization’s risk appetite and supporting effective resource management in accordance with agreed policies.

The client expects board members to uphold strong governance and compliance practices across financial, corporate, and fundraising activities. Responsibilities include contributing to strategic oversight by helping develop and monitor the charity’s strategic direction, maintaining collective responsibility for governance and leadership standards, and supporting compliance with relevant regulatory and reporting requirements. The board member will also be expected to manage assets responsibly and act with reasonable care and skill in the best interests of The client.

Ideal candidates are senior financial leaders with experience gained in large commercial, charity, or not-for-profit organizations in Ireland, along with technical investment or portfolio management expertise. Previous board experience is preferred but not required, and governance training or a governance qualification would be an advantage. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are needed to engage with stakeholders and fellow board members, along with strategic thinking and commitment to The client’s mission and values. The role typically requires sufficient time for board meetings and follow-up responsibilities; board meetings occur in person a few times per year with hybrid arrangements by exception, and board members are generally expected to serve on one or more committees.
