Description

The client seeks new Board members for a volunteer, unpaid Board role for a three-year term spanning 2026–2029. The client is a disability-led and disability-focused arts organisation that delivers an annual arts festival and year-round programme featuring relaxed engagement formats designed to support accessibility for audiences. The Board’s work focuses on strengthening governance and strategic direction, including building responsive access supports so all Board members can participate fully.

The client’s Board recruitment prioritizes expertise that complements existing leadership, with a focus on law, accounting, and arts sector experience. The role will provide strategic legal, accounting, and arts-sector insight to help ensure decision-making aligns with legal obligations and strong governance standards, including compliance responsibilities under relevant company and equal status legislation. Board members will also support review and oversight of policies and procedures to ensure they are legally sound, aligned with regulatory standards, and consistent with the rights reflected in the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.

Applicants are expected to have relevant qualifications and at least five years’ experience in legal practice, along with an accounting background specifically in non-profit company accounting (and a lived experience of disability and/or a clear understanding of disability rights is sought). Lived experience of disability is a distinct advantage, and candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities and an interest in the role arts can play in changing societal attitudes. The client is also working toward a Board that is majority-led by disabled people, and it anticipates a “light touch” festival approach while consolidating learning and developing a five-year strategic direction.
