The client is seeking Board Directors for the Waterford Traveller Community Development Project CLG, operating as Mincir Port Lirge. The organization is Traveller-led and works to improve the quality of life for all Travellers in Waterford by promoting better outcomes on issues such as Traveller ethnicity recognition, human rights campaigns, and health, accommodation, and education opportunities. Guided by Community Development principles and the upholding of Human rights, Mincir Port Lirge's mission is to contribute to the improvement of Travellers' quality of life, living circumstances, status, and participation through innovative work for social justice, solidarity, development, equality, and human rights.
The main aim of Mincir Port Lirge is to work in partnership with Travellers to create opportunities that build confidence and skills, enabling them to bring about improvements in their status, life chances, and living conditions while respecting Traveller culture and ethnicity. The organization's core objectives include empowering Travellers through various programs, promoting their inclusion in local development strategies, supporting them in their struggles, networking with relevant agencies and groups, developing strategies for culturally appropriate accommodation, and building solidarity between Travellers and settled people. The ideal candidate for the Board Director position will have experience in Charity/Not for Profit organization board membership and governance.
Responsibilities of the Board Director include providing input and oversight of the strategic direction of Mincir Port Lirge, ensuring compliance with the charity's governing document and charitable purpose for public benefit, acting in the best interest of the charity, and being accountable to members, funders, and stakeholders. Board meetings are held four times a year at the Deise House in Waterford, with some meetings also facilitated on Zoom.
