Description

the client seeks an accomplished, visionary, and collaborative leader to serve as the next dean of a college of humanities and social sciences. This role will lead a world-class academic unit at a global, research-intensive university, and is expected to set a bold strategic vision for both the humanities and social sciences. Key priorities include advancing faculty excellence, fostering a culture of inclusion and shared governance, strengthening the college’s financial foundation, and advocating for the humanities and social sciences within the wider university and the global community.

the ideal candidate will engage in noteworthy scholarship and bring proven academic leadership skills, including the ability to champion the humanities and social sciences in a STEM-rich environment. The dean is expected to inspire collaboration across disciplines, lead with integrity and curiosity, and demonstrate a deep commitment to academic freedom and innovation. The dean will work with a community spanning students, faculty, staff, and alumni, and will support the college’s focus on confronting and solving society’s most complex problems through research and experiential learning.

The dean will lead and advance the college’s strategic, programmatic, financial, and operational elements in close collaboration with the provost and a supportive team of other academic deans. Interdisciplinary collaboration is essential, and the dean will partner with assistant and associate deans as well as unit leadership to support the college’s academic mission. The role will guide a faculty and student community that conducts research and creative work across traditional boundaries, helping shape how knowledge and technology contribute to human understanding and social insight.
