The client is seeking a Bank Controller responsible for maintaining the integrity of the bank’s accounting operations, including accurate reporting and record-keeping. The role focuses on establishing controls and budgets to mitigate risk, ensuring results comply with applicable accounting standards, and supporting ongoing financial performance monitoring through periodic and forecasted reporting. The Bank Controller will also partner with department managers to help define and maintain effective procedures that support efficient use of the accounting system.
Key responsibilities include preparing and filing required regulatory and financial reports by established deadlines, producing periodic financial reporting for daily, monthly, and annual monitoring, and overseeing maintenance of accounting records and internal controls. The role will include forecasting financial performance, explaining budget deviations related to fees and operating expenses, supervising finance operations staff, managing daily general ledger balancing and reconciliations, and providing backup support for monthly reconciliations prepared by operations staff. The Bank Controller will also support compliance-related efforts, including assistance with audits, identifying training needs, and participating in annual agency audits such as FDIC-related audits.
Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, with a CPA as a plus. The role typically requires five or more years of comprehensive accounting experience, including at least two years managing general ledger and financial reporting functions, and demonstrated knowledge of federal and state banking laws and regulations. The candidate should have financial control and general ledger experience, with prior banking experience preferred, strong decision-making and judgment, and the ability to motivate and develop others. Proficiency may include advanced spreadsheet and office tools commonly used for reporting, along with familiarity with accounting software systems, and participation in ongoing professional development.
