the client seeks a seasoned, collaborative, and dynamic student affairs leader to serve as the Associate Vice Provost and Dean of Students. In this role, the dean will report to the vice provost and be an active member of a strategic leadership team, serving as a visible and engaged advocate for students on the Pittsburgh campus. The position supports leadership and administration across the student affairs division and provides student-ready leadership at the intersection of academic life and the student experience.
The dean will lead innovative co-curricular programs, activities, and services that promote student well-being, belonging, engagement, diverse learning experiences, and preparation for success in both academic and broader community settings. Responsibilities include strategic direction and management of the Office of the Dean of Students, overseeing teams focused on student culture and community and student engagement. The dean will also play a key role in advancing division and institutional priorities through a student-centered focus, working directly with undergraduate, graduate, and professional students as well as student leaders.
Key responsibilities include listening and responding to student issues and concerns, maintaining a strong campus presence, and serving as a liaison between students and the larger institution. The role involves leading and empowering a large, dynamic team; building visibility, trust, and transparency across a diverse student body; partnering with academic affairs to support holistic development, student success, and co-curricular learning; and evolving core infrastructure to support student safety and well-being. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of ethical, collaborative leadership and effective supervision of student affairs staff, along with broad knowledge of higher education leadership, student support practices, student development and engagement, student programming, administrative operations, and best practices in student safety and wellness.
