Description

The Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs (AVP FA) is responsible for overseeing all faculty lifecycle matters at the university, including recruitment, appointment, evaluation, retention, tenure, promotion, compensation, leaves, retirement, and professional success. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the AVP FA ensures compliance with collective bargaining agreements, CSU policies, and state and federal regulations while promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in academic personnel processes. As a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team, the AVP FA provides guidance to senior university officials on faculty personnel and labor relations issues, interprets and implements collective bargaining agreements, and represents the university in labor management and arbitration proceedings.The AVP FA collaborates with Human Resources, Equity and Compliance, and shared governance bodies to ensure fair, consistent, and legally sound personnel practices. This role requires strong judgment, collaborative leadership, and the ability to balance institutional priorities with faculty interests in a dynamic higher education environment. The AVP FA plays a key role in advising the Provost, deans, and department chairs on complex faculty personnel matters, overseeing grievance and disciplinary processes, and conducting or supervising investigations as needed. Overall, the AVP FA is instrumental in advancing the university's academic mission and fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for faculty and academic student employees.
