The client is seeking an Associate Vice President for Administration and Finance in Austin, Texas, reporting to the Vice President for Administration and Finance. The role provides executive-level leadership and operational oversight for the university’s financial, administrative, and business operations, serving as a strategic partner in implementing institutional priorities. Responsibilities include strengthening administrative processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting operational excellence across the division.
The Associate Vice President will lead the annual university budget development process and provide strategic financial recommendations. Key duties include ensuring sound fiscal stewardship through budget monitoring, forecasting, and corrective action recommendations; overseeing accounting functions, financial reporting, cash management, investments, internal controls, and audit preparation; and serving as the lead financial liaison for external auditors and regulatory or accrediting entities. The role also coordinates day-to-day business office operations and acts as a liaison between departmental leadership and the Vice President, while partnering with relevant offices to maximize reimbursement opportunities, support timely drawdowns, and maintain compliance.
Additional responsibilities include analyzing financial data to support executive decision-making, reviewing and optimizing contracts and vendor agreements, and presenting financial reports and recommendations to senior leadership bodies. The client expects the ability to foster a culture of collaboration, customer service, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. Qualifications include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with a CPA strongly preferred, and five or more years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience (preferably in higher education), along with demonstrated expertise in budgeting, audits, investments, compliance, and financial analysis; experience with relevant higher education systems may be preferred.
