The client seeks an Associate Director of Strategic Communications to ensure staff, managers, and leaders are aligned, informed, and able to understand and activate the organization’s strategy. This role serves as the organizational hub connecting internal messaging with external media and public relations activities managed through an external agency. It also owns the sequencing of internal-to-external communications so teams understand key decisions, milestones, risks, and public-facing narratives before they are shared externally.
The Associate Director will lead enterprise-wide internal communications strategy focused on clarity, alignment, and transparency, establishing internal communication rhythms such as all-staff updates, leadership messages, manager toolkits, and intranet content cycles. The role will integrate internal and external messaging by bridging internal communications and PR efforts to maintain narrative consistency and brand alignment. It will own internal rollout plans for externally visible announcements (such as press releases, leadership visibility, campaigns, and risk events), coordinate timing so staff are informed prior to external audiences, and review agency outputs for alignment before final approval.
Day to day, the Associate Director will manage and direct the external PR/media agency through a centralized intake and triage process for PR requests, ensuring agency work supports enterprise narratives, culture needs, and organizational priorities. The role will review press statements, messaging, briefing materials, and issues management documentation created by the agency. It will lead internal crisis communications—such as manager scripts, FAQs, and staff updates—serving as the internal counterpart for external crisis response and coordinating with Legal, HR, and executive communications to ensure consistency and speed; it will also enable leaders with internal messaging and talking points tied to external visibility moments, translating organizational changes and strategy updates into clear and empathetic communications while improving intranet governance and reducing duplicate or conflicting messaging.
