The client is seeking a motivated and passionate Associate Director of Journalism Education to advance its mission and serve as a key member of its leadership team. Reporting to the Executive Director, the role oversees the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the client’s educational programming, with the goal of strengthening the pipeline of historically informed investigative journalists. The Associate Director collaborates with faculty, students, and partner institutions to blend academic rigor with real-world training opportunities that prepare journalists to report fearlessly and hold power accountable.
Key responsibilities include providing vision and oversight for academic and faculty development programs, leading and managing the journalism education programs team, and partnering with faculty to design and evaluate courses for an investigative journalism concentration while expanding innovative academic programming, including cross-campus and online offerings. The role also involves assessing program effectiveness and using feedback to improve outcomes. In addition, the Associate Director recruits and supports visiting professors and provides faculty training and resources to strengthen investigative journalism instruction, while building and maintaining academic partnerships to create shared resources and professional development opportunities.
The Associate Director will oversee student-led, national, multi-campus investigative reporting projects focused on advancing racial and economic justice, and will help strengthen and expand the client’s fact-checking initiative across partner HBCUs. The position also contributes to broader strategic initiatives, collaborates with instructional design teams to develop engaging learning experiences and digital modules, and works with faculty and external partners to integrate new approaches into academic programs. The ideal candidate will be able to design, develop, and oversee instructional and experiential programs rooted in journalism education and will cultivate relationships across the university community, partner institutions, and external stakeholders to support program success.
