Description

The client is seeking a Lead Independent Credit Reviewer to lead independent reviews of leveraged lending credit quality and wholesale credit exposures, including sponsor-backed transactions, leveraged buyouts, recapitalizations, refinancings, and complex capital structures. This role will advise senior risk and lending leaders by evaluating underwriting quality, financial analysis, deal structures, covenants, collateral, and alignment with risk appetite, while validating internal risk ratings and identifying gaps that require mitigation or escalation.

The role will also analyze portfolio risk by assessing ongoing monitoring practices, borrower performance, sponsor behavior, and covenant compliance. You will identify emerging risks, concentration themes, and portfolio vulnerabilities tied to market conditions or sponsor behavior, and conduct thematic, horizontal, or deep-dive reviews on targeted risk areas. In addition, you will support governance and reporting by preparing clear, objective findings with root causes and recommended improvements and presenting results to senior risk leadership, credit executives, and business line stakeholders.

Working closely with credit policy, independent risk, internal audit, model risk, and capital or portfolio analytics teams as needed, you will contribute to continuous improvement of review methodologies. Responsibilities include mentoring junior reviewers, enhancing sampling approaches, scoring criteria, and documentation standards, and promoting a culture of accountability, transparency, and disciplined credit risk management. The successful applicant will typically have 6–10+ years of relevant experience in credit risk review, underwriting, portfolio management, or credit audit focused on leveraged lending or wholesale credit, with strong expertise in sponsor finance and wholesale credit risk frameworks, along with clear communication and the ability to challenge constructively; a bachelor’s degree is required, and advanced credentials may be considered a plus.
