Description

The client is seeking an experienced, self-motivated Assistant Vice President for Finance and Comptroller to serve as a senior financial leader with limited supervision. This executive role oversees The client’s overall financial services and financial management operations, planning, developing, and supervising key functions to support effective institutional control and decision-making.

Responsibilities include supervising areas such as general accounting, accounts payable, payroll, grants and contracts accounting, student accounts, and cashiering activities. The assistant vice president will coordinate with the budget office on annual and long-range budget preparation and revisions for senior leadership review, ensure approved expenditures are controlled within approved budget limits, maintain accounting records and bank accounts, and oversee receipting and disbursing of university funds. The role also involves coordinating with program directors supporting restricted funds, ensuring proper management of those funds, working with internal and external auditors and financial advisors, and supervising cash management, investment management, and credit risk management.

Minimum requirements include a master’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration (or a related area) or certification as a Certified Public Accountant, along with five years of progressive experience in college or university accounting, financial management, or business management. Essential functions include extensive knowledge of accounting, auditing, budgeting, and financial management; the ability to design, implement, and evaluate accounting and financial management procedures; strong budget and financial statement preparation and analysis skills; proven supervisory ability for professional and clerical employees; and well-developed written and oral communication skills, with experience in higher education finance preferred.
