Description

the client seeks an experienced assistant vice president, development (AVP) to provide strategic leadership and oversee the development team. The AVP will report to and partner closely with the vice president for university advancement as an integral member of the advancement executive team, strengthening development operations through data-informed strategies and by guiding systems, processes, and policies to improve performance and productivity.

Joining during the launch of the university’s second comprehensive campaign, the AVP will direct and execute strategies to grow the donor base and deepen relationships within the Monterey Bay community, fostering a culture of philanthropy on campus and beyond. In addition to personally managing a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects and donors, the AVP will inspire trust with senior academic and administrative leaders and will develop and implement strategies that support campaign priorities.

Working in partnership with the vice president, the AVP will lead and manage the comprehensive campaign by ensuring campus constituents are informed, engaged, and collaborating effectively, and will contribute to the strategy, messaging, and implementation plan for the public phase while overseeing execution to maximize visibility, participation, and philanthropic support. The ideal candidate will have progressive fundraising leadership experience, including at least three years of direct supervisory experience, preferably in an academic setting and campaign environment, along with demonstrated program-building capability and a track record of securing major and principal gifts; a bachelor’s degree is required and an advanced degree is preferred, and the AVP is expected to be a credible, collaborative relationship-builder with strong interpersonal maturity, professionalism, and emotional intelligence.
