Description

the client is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Engineering and Energy. Reporting to the Vice President for Operations, this leader provides visionary and strategic direction for energy services and programs across campus buildings and central energy plants. The role will direct and implement energy management and engineering initiatives, including master planning, conservation efforts, renewable energy portfolio management, strategic procurement of natural gas and electricity, central plant oversight, and State of Good Repair (SOGR) program management, along with other related engineering and energy strategies.

Key responsibilities include developing strategic initiatives spanning utility management planning, consumption measurement, conservation technologies, renewable energy, sustainable systems, policy and program development, utility recharge and forecasting, and energy commodity market analysis to support procurement decisions. The assistant vice president will guide energy efficiency program strategy and optimization efforts, lead Engineering and associated commissioning functions supporting SOGR planning and project management, and establish procedures to comply with regulatory programs. This position will set and monitor short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures, and drive continuous improvement across campus infrastructure, capital planning, systems, operations, and energy conservation.

The role includes proactive engagement with utility users to build constructive dialogue and cooperation, oversight of energy efficiency projects from opportunity identification through implementation in collaboration with capital project stakeholders, and management of utility vendor relationships to improve service levels. The assistant vice president will establish key performance metrics, oversee development of energy-focused construction and renovation guidelines, and provide direction to the Central Utility Plant Manager to ensure reliable, efficient, and cost-effective operations of steam and condensate systems, metering, chiller plants, and distribution systems. Additional duties include ensuring a compliant maintenance management system, identifying grant or rebate opportunities and managing related applications and reporting, diagnosing mechanical issues that affect energy consumption, advising maintenance teams on energy-efficient operations, directing building automation and utilities sub-metering standards, leading commissioning and re-commissioning efforts, and supporting initiatives to optimize building systems performance.
