An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant General Counsel specializing in Data Privacy & Commercial matters within a global, growth-focused client. The role involves serving as the primary legal advisor on U.S. data privacy concerns while also addressing a variety of commercial legal requirements. This position is newly established and necessitates close collaboration with both U.S. and global stakeholders. The individual in this role will report directly to an Associate General Counsel responsible for employment, commercial, and data privacy issues. An ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of U.S. federal and state privacy laws and demonstrate a practical, business-oriented perspective.
The core responsibilities include advising on U.S. data privacy compliance and risk management, and staying abreast of evolving privacy laws to implement necessary measures. The role requires drafting and negotiating data protection and commercial agreement terms, as well as supporting privacy impact assessments, incident response protocols, and handling data subject requests. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and external legal counsel is essential to effectively fulfill these duties.
Candidates must hold a JD and active U.S. bar membership and have over five years of experience in U.S. data privacy law. Experience in negotiating privacy and commercial agreements, particularly within the healthcare, life sciences, or pharmaceutical sectors, is advantageous. Additionally, privacy certifications such as CIPP/US are preferred.
