Description

The client is seeking an Assistant Director of Strategic Communications and Content to serve as a senior member of its communications team. In this full-time, exempt role, you will develop and execute strategic communications that advance the organization’s legal and policy goals, strengthen public understanding of LGBTQ+ rights (including among new and conflicted audiences), and elevate the organization’s expertise. The position is focused on translating complex legal and policy developments into clear, compelling narratives that support public awareness, dignity, and equality.

You will draft, edit, and refine a high volume of written materials, including event remarks and speeches, press releases and media statements, organizational and advocacy emails, newsletter articles, fact sheets and FAQs, blog posts, and website and digital content. You will translate court decisions, legislative activity, and regulatory changes into accessible language, maintain a consistent organizational voice while adapting tone and style to different audiences, and meet tight deadlines with accuracy. You will also contribute to organizational and issue-based messaging frameworks, narrative strategy, and communications plans, and collaborate across departments to ensure communications efforts support litigation and development objectives.

In addition, you will support media and creator relations by cultivating relationships with journalists, editors, and content producers across print, broadcast, and digital outlets. You will respond to press inquiries, pitch stories, coordinate interviews, prepare spokespeople for media appearances, and monitor coverage to identify opportunities and manage the organization’s public profile. The role is best suited to a self-motivated communications strategist with strong writing skills, commitment to civil rights, and the ability to work effectively in a diverse multicultural environment.
