About Feinstein

Jay Feinstein is a Partner in the Healthcare and Life Sciences Practice at Heidrick & Struggles, based in Dallas. A self-described "avid consumer of all things healthcare," Jay brings a rare combination of operational "grit" and strategic advisory to the executive search landscape. His professional philosophy—his "North Star"—is rooted in the patient-provider relationship, a value instilled by his grandfather, a dedicated OB-GYN. This patient-centric lens informs how he identifies leaders who can balance clinical excellence with commercial performance. Jay’s expertise is particularly deep in the Private Equity (PE) and Private Capital space. He acts as a trusted advisor to PE-backed healthcare companies, helping them maximize their enterprise value by securing "out of the box" talent capable of driving rapid transformation. Before joining Heidrick & Struggles in 2024, Jay spent over five years at Egon Zehnder, where he served as a Consultant and Co-Lead of the U. S. Health Services and Digital Health Practices. There, he focused on building future talent pipelines and advising founders and boards on the human capital initiatives required to scale rapidly growing organizations. What differentiates Jay is his extensive pre-search career as a healthcare operator. He served as the VP of Operations and Integration at U. S. Anesthesia Partners (Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe), where he led M&A integration strategies for deals averaging $90M. Prior to that, he spent over six years at Tenet Healthcare, ultimately serving as the Chief Business Development and Growth Officer for Tenet Physician Resources. At Tenet, he led the growth of a provider network from 400 to over 2,500 providers, managing an enterprise value of over $1.2B and spearheading high-ROI digital health initiatives like a national partnership with ZocDoc. Jay holds an MBA in Strategic Management and International Business from The George Washington University School of Business and a B. S. from the College of Charleston. His early career at Johnson & Johnson (Ethicon Endo-Surgery) as a Bariatric Account Manager provided him with a foundational understanding of medical device sales and market development. This "full-stack" healthcare background—from surgical device sales and hospital operations to PE-backed growth and global leadership advisory—allows him to assess candidates with a degree of operational skepticism and strategic foresight that few in the search industry can match. Key Leadership & Strategic Pillars The Operator-Advisory Hybrid: Leverages a decade of "in-the-trenches" experience at Tenet and USAP to evaluate if candidates have the functional competence to execute complex strategies. PE Talent Architect: Specialist in identifying the unique leadership traits required to thrive under the high-pressure, high-growth expectations of private equity sponsors. Digital Health & Innovation Leader: Proven track record in leveraging technology (SEO, Telehealth, Population Health Management) to solve patient leakage and operational inefficiencies. Mentor & Culture Shaper: Passionate about leadership development, Jay utilizes his experience in the Tenet Leadership Academy to counsel investors and CEOs on building high-performing, cohesive teams. Firm Profile (Heidrick & Struggles) The Premier Global Advisor: Heidrick & Struggles is a global leader in executive search, serving over 70% of the Fortune 1000. Sector-Specific Excellence: The Healthcare and Life Sciences practice is one of the firm's most robust, navigating the complexities of a highly regulated and rapidly evolving global industry. Data-Driven Leadership: The firm combines qualitative human insight with rigorous, data-backed assessment tools to ensure long-term cultural and strategic fit for every placement.
