Dr. James Mullen is a distinguished leader in American higher education, currently serving as the President of Allegheny College. With nearly two decades of presidential experience, he has a proven track record of advancing academic excellence and institutional sustainability. Prior to his tenure at Allegheny, Dr. Mullen served as the President of the College of Our Lady of the Elms and as the Chancellor of UNC Asheville. His extensive administrative background also includes senior leadership roles as Senior Vice President at Trinity College and Executive Vice President at Middlesex Community College. Dr. Mullen is deeply committed to the values of liberal arts education and has frequently contributed to the national dialogue on the role of higher education in civic life. He holds a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a Master of Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from the College of the Holy Cross, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
