Confidentiality and privacy of your personal information are of utmost concern to BlueSteps.com and the AESC. We are at the forefront of data privacy issues worldwide and have drafted these Terms & Conditions in accordance with the highest privacy standards.
BlueSteps.com is a service managed by the Association of Executive Search and Leadership Consultants (hereafter referred to as AESC). It is a career management tool offered to senior executives, which gives them exposure to AESC member firms.
BlueSteps.com is committed to respecting the privacy of users of its service and to complying with applicable laws governing data privacy, while offering executive participants global exposure to the retained executive search industry, through members of the AESC.
2. The Information We Collect From You
BlueSteps.com stores up to three separate elements of personal information for all Executive Registrants:
2.1 Personal Details
Personal details are collected to make your data available to the search firms participating in BlueSteps.com. In addition, BlueSteps.com may use your personal details for correspondence (email communications, newsletters, SMS/text messages, phone calls and other important messages about your account), internal customer research purposes, and to activate your member benefits with external partners who may contact you regarding those benefits. Should any statistics be made public, they will be aggregated figures only. BlueSteps.com collects the following information for all registrants:
Email Address (required)
Job title or board position (optional)
Job function (optional)
Company name (optional)
Current total compensation level (optional)
2.2 Short Profile
Your short profile is an overview of your career experience, your current employment status, and the areas in which you are seeking future employment. A short profile is required of all registrants to BlueSteps.com, although only certain fields are mandatory. The profile allows search consultants who are members of the AESC to match the requirements of a particular search assignment to executives within the BlueSteps.com database. The details requested for this are:
Educational background (optional, but recommended)
Certifications (optional, but recommended)
Languages spoken (optional, but recommended)
Companies worked for previously and currently (optional, but recommended)
Functions that are relevant to your career experience (required)
Industries that are relevant to your career experience (required)
Compensation levels (general) that are relevant to your career experience (required)
Geographical regions in which you are currently employed or seeking future employment (required)
Countries in which you are currently employed or seeking future employment (required)
Your resume/CV is an optional addition to the data stored within BlueSteps.com. The resume/CV allows search consultants to match the requirements of a particular search assignment with your career experience. There is no obligation to upload your resume/CV, although it is recommended. BlueSteps.com reserves the right to review all resumes/CVs submitted and to decline any submissions that do not meet current requirements of the service, including, but not limited to current or recent compensation level. BlueSteps.com is for Senior Executives who are currently, or were recently, earning a minimum of US$100,000 (or their country equivalent).
3. Where Your Data Is Made Available
Your privacy is treated with the utmost care. Your short profile and resume/CV are available to retained executive search consultants who are members of the AESC (herein referred to as AESC Members). You can view the full list of AESC Members here.
AESC Members subscribe to the Code of Ethics and Professional Practice Guidelines set forth by the Association. These guidelines stipulate that a search firm may only provide an individual's confidential resume/CV or other confidential data with the individual's prior consent, and in the context of an existing client relationship, meaning that your information cannot be forwarded to any hiring entity without your consent. It is a condition of membership to the AESC that a search firm subscribes to these rules.
In addition, BlueSteps.com may use your personal details for correspondence (email communications, newsletters, SMS/text messages, phone calls and other important messages about your account), internal customer research purposes, and to activate your member benefits with external partners who may contact you regarding those benefits. Should any statistics be made public, they will be aggregated figures only.
4. Privacy and Data Protection
BlueSteps.com is committed to protecting the privacy of personal data and makes every effort to comply with national laws regarding the processing of personal data. This includes the terms and conditions set out by the EU Directive 95/46/EC.
Except in circumstances where an individual chooses to voluntarily include information on gender or ethnicity, BlueSteps.com does not maintain or process sensitive personal data relating to gender, ethnicity, race, political opinions, religious beliefs, trade union membership or data concerning individual health or sexual orientation.
BlueSteps.com ensures you the right to obtain the following information upon request:
- Whether or not your data is processed by BlueSteps.com - meaning whether or not you are a registered user of the service
- The purpose of processing your data - meaning any and all reasons for which your data is used
- Category of recipients to whom your data is disclosed - meaning the list of members of the AESC with access to your information
- Using the 'My Profile' section of the website, you have the right to correct and update any data that is inaccurate or incomplete and you have the right to delete your data from the BlueSteps.com database at any time. You may review your account, and all the information relating to it using the 'My Profile' feature.
5. Data Retention
If you log in to your BlueSteps.com account on at least a yearly basis, your details will remain available on the BlueSteps.com system indefinitely to be accessed by AESC members. If you do not log in and review your information on at least a yearly basis, you will be notified by email that your information is subject to removal from the system within one month of the date of the email. Removal may be avoided by logging in to your account at any point during that one-month period.
6. Removing Your Personal Data
You can remove your Career Profile and resume/CV and terminate your membership at any stage by filling out the “Contact Us” form under “Contact Us/FAQs” in your BlueSteps account.
Since your BlueSteps membership is valid throughout your entire career, we recommend you keep your account even if you are not actively using it right now. By keeping your account open, you will remain in our database, accessible to executive search consultants. Please note that once your account is deleted it reopening the account will require repaying the career-long membership fee. You will also need to fill in your information again as it will have been removed from our database.
7. Information and Data from AESC Member Firms Published in Executive Search Firm Directory (Online Directory of AESC members) and Information provided by other Third Parties and Published on BlueSteps.com
BlueSteps.com makes every effort to ensure that the information available on the site is current and accurate. BlueSteps.com is not, however, responsible for the accuracy and integrity of data entered by, or referring to, third parties. This includes, but is not limited to, the Executive Search Firm Directory (Online AESC Directory), job opportunity postings, external weblinks, resources, articles or secondary information.
8. Changes in Privacy Statement and Terms and Conditions
BlueSteps.com reserves the right to modify or amend the Privacy Statement and Terms and Conditions at any time or for any reason. If this Privacy Statement is amended for any reason, BlueSteps.com will post it clearly on the web site so that you will always know what information we collect, use, and, under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. 9. Technical Safeguards
9.1 How Your Personal Details Are Safeguarded
BlueSteps.com has taken all reasonable precautions to prevent unauthorized access to BlueSteps.com services, including, but not limited to, the use of firewalls, controlled distributions of passwords, state-of-the-industry SSL certification, and more.
9.2 Uploading/Downloading files from BlueSteps.com
BlueSteps.com does not accept responsibility for any damage incurred as a result of a registered user’s decision to upload or download an attached document from the BlueSteps.com service. Documents include, but are not limited to, job descriptions and articles.
BlueSteps.com uses "cookies" to maximize the efficiency of your experience online. A cookie is a text file that is placed on your hard drive by a Web page server. Cookies are uniquely assigned to your computer, and can only be read only by a Web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you. A cookie informs the Web server that you have returned to a specific page. It ensures that your experience is personalized and that certain pieces of data are retained in order to make your experience as personalized and efficient as possible.
10. Refund Policy
10.1 Career Profile Refund Policy
You may request a refund during the first 10 days following your registration and payment. Following the initial 10 day period, refunds will not be permitted. Career Profile is ONLY for senior level executives (designated as individuals earning in excess of US$100,000 or country equivalent). If your profile is rejected by the AESC you will be notified within 10 days and will be entitled to a refund. Falsification of any aspect of your profile may serve as a basis to terminate your participation in BlueSteps.com WITHOUT refund. All "Elite" Membership purchases are final, and are exempt from the above-stated refund period.
10.2 Auto Renewal Refund Policy
Your resume/CV and career profile will continue to remain available within the BlueSteps.com database indefinitely, and can be accessed by AESC member search professionals.
After the first six months of access to BlueSteps Premium Services, your membership will automatically renew annually at the rate of $89 (or regional equivalent) to preserve continuity and access to these Premium Services. We reserve the right to modify pricing at any time upon advance notice. All "Elite" and "Executive" Membership purchases include Lifetime access to Premium Services and do not require additional renewal payments.
You can shut off auto-renew at any time by contacting BlueSteps Customer Support at info@BlueSteps.com or +1 212 398 2159. If you would like to cancel your subscription to BlueSteps Premium Membership services and not be charged for renewal, you must cancel before your renewal date, or your subscription will be renewed. A full refund of the renewal fee is available within 60 days of the auto-renewal transaction, by contacting BlueSteps Customer Support. After 60 days, a pro rata amount of the renewal fee will be refunded.
10.3 Storing Credit Card Information
Credit card information provided to BlueSteps will be processed, stored and used for billing purposes only by Braintree, a Paypal company. BlueSteps does not directly process or store your credit card information. Your credit card information will never be sold or shared with third parties, for any purpose, by either BlueSteps or Braintree.
10.4 Promotional Activities
Promotional offers cannot be combined with existing partner codes. In cases where a user has a partner code, and BlueSteps.com is running a membership promotion, the greater discount may be taken.
11. BlueSteps Executive Career Services
BlueSteps offers Executive Resume Writing and Career Coaching to members with a third party network of best-in-class professionals.
Your career consultant will work with you to deliver the services you’ve purchased, whether coaching sessions, customized career marketing communications, or other services. You will have the opportunity to review a proof of each document and/or your coaching schedule in order to discuss any changes or comments to facilitate your complete satisfaction.
11.2 Accuracy and Timeliness
You agree to review all engagement schedules, drafts, and final documents within the deadlines set by your advisor. Carefully proofread all content, as you understand that ultimately the accuracy of your career materials is your responsibility. If you have unused portions of your purchase, such as pre-purchased coaching time, they expire 2 months after purchase unless otherwise agreed upon in writing with your advisor. All written services (resumes/CVs, Bios, LinkedIn profiles, etc.) are considered finalized after 2 months unless otherwise agreed upon in writing with your advisor.
Our advisors use ecareerservices.com email accounts. Please ensure that the ecareerservices domain is added to your contacts to avoid communication disruptions.

Privacy is a cornerstone of BlueSteps. BlueSteps will never share your information outside of our career and customer service teams. No one else will have access to your materials - not colleagues, friends or employers.
12. Acceptable Use Policy
Executive Search Firm Directory: Information accessed via the Executive Search Firm Directory service is for personal use only. Information in the Executive Search Firm Directory is not to be used for any commercial purposes, including, but not limited to corporate mass marketing/solicitation.
13. Modifications, Interruption or Termination of Service
BlueSteps.com reserves the right to modify or discontinue the website with or without notice to you. BlueSteps shall not be liable to you or any third party should it exercise its right to modify or discontinue the website. In entering into this agreement, you acknowledge that BlueSteps does not guarantee continuous, uninterrupted or secure access to its operation of this website. There are numerous circumstances outside of its control that may adversely affect BlueSteps.com.
14. Disclaimer and Liability Limitations
The materials and information contained in this website are provided “as is” without any warranty, representation, or undertaking of any kind. BlueSteps makes no representations or warranties regarding the use or the results obtained through use of this website in terms of its accuracy, completeness, reliability or otherwise, of any materials, resumes or other information posted by users.
BlueSteps shall not be liable for any damages whatsoever arising out of or related to this website or the information it contains.
In any event, the maximum liability arising out of the website and any information or services provided therein, will not exceed the total amount the user has paid BlueSteps in the twelve month period preceding the date the claim first arose.
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold BlueSteps, its officers, directors, employees and agents, harmless from and against any claims, actions or demands including, without limitation, reasonable legal and accounting fees and costs arising or resulting from your use of the site, from the content of any document posted by you, or from your breach of this Agreement, or infringement by you, or other users of the site using your computer of any intellectual property or any other right of any person or entity. BlueSteps shall provide notice to you promptly of any such claim, suit, or proceeding and shall reasonably assist you, at your expense, in defending any such claim, suit or proceeding.
