About Mr. Burgess
Carter is head of the firm's Board Recruiting practice and a senior member of the Board & CEO Services team. As practice leader, he focuses on director searches, the build-out of entire boards, comprehensive board composition analyses, multi-year succession planning strategies, and board performance assessments for companies in a broad array of industries. Experience and Expertise Carter has been in executive recruiting for more than 25 years. He has focused exclusively on advising boards and recruiting directors (successfully completing over 250 director searches) for over 19 years. Before RSR Partners, he was a senior member of the Financial Services Practice at Egon Zehnder in New York. Carter has executed assignments in numerous industries, including: aerospace and defense, automotive, business services, chemicals, construction and engineering, consumer products and services, energy, financial services, healthcare, homebuilding, hospitality and leisure, life sciences, logistics, manufacturing, technology, transportation, and utilities. Before Carter started in search, he was a vice president in the Corporate Finance Department at Salomon Brothers. As a member of the retail industry coverage group, he advised leading retailers on a variety of matters, including acquisitions, divestitures, and accessing the public, private equity, and fixed income capital markets. Outside of RSR Partners Carter graduated from Brown University with a BA in international relations and earned his MBA from Columbia University. He and his wife are longtime residents of Pelham Manor, New York. They have two grown children who live in Boulder, Colorado. Carter loves the outdoors, especially fishing, hiking, bird watching, and gardening.
