
Our client is seeking a Vice President and General Counsel to serve as the chief legal officer for the institution, providing expert legal counsel and guidance to the Board of Trustees and the President. Reporting directly to the President, this position oversees strategic leadership and manages a wide range of institutional matters. The General Counsel represents the institution in legal proceedings, prepares pleadings, and negotiates between parties to ensure the effective management of legal risks.
Preferred candidates will have legal experience in higher education, public contracting experience, and the ability to interpret laws regulating public entities. They should be able to transform strategic direction into tactical action plans and have a broad background to converse with various functional areas across the institution. Membership in good standing in the Oregon State Bar or eligibility to gain admission within twelve months of hire is required, along with a JD from an ABA accredited institution and a minimum of five years of experience as a practicing attorney in a complex organization.
