About the Driehaus Foundation Since its founding in 1992, The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation (Driehaus Foundation”) has been committed to enriching the lives of all Chicagoans by improving the built environment, cultivating a robust and diverse arts and culture ecosystem, and supporting investigative journalism that fosters transparency, accountability, and effective government. Through the Foundations work, the legacy of Richard H. Driehaus and his dedication to philanthropy in gratitude for those who provided him with opportunities throughout his life is carried on. The Foundation remains committed to historic preservation, architecture, and investment in the built environment to ensure that urban areas are designed to meet a communitys needs. Central to the Foundations work is a belief that the arts play an essential role in cultural life and that investigative reporting and an independent press have the power to improve society. The Driehaus Foundations funding areas include: Built Environment Ensuring healthy urban environments. The built environment influences how individuals experience the world the routes we travel, buildings we embrace, trails we bike, parks we visit, and the people we engage. It includes homes, commercial districts, open spaces, streets, and sidewalks, and comprises the varied environments that make up our cities and towns. Individually, these components are sometimes at odds with each other but collectively the design, scale, and use of materials impact our quality of life. Arts and Culture Advancing creative initiatives. The arts play an essential role in the cultural life of Chicago. They stimulate our imagination, challenge our perceptions, and encourage us to reflect on our distinct traditions and our shared humanity. The arts are also an innovative force in catalyzing economic and social transformation in Chicago neighborhoods. Investigative Journalism for Government Accountability Strengthening reporting in the public interest. The Driehaus Foundation understands that for democracy to thrive, government must be held accountable by an informed public through an independent press. Investigative reporting is critical for the press to fulfill its watchdog role and help the public more deeply understand the issues of our time. The Opportunity The Foundation is at an important and exciting inflection point and is growing the team to support the expansion of long-term portfolios in all giving areas. In line with the Foundations ambitious agenda and increased giving, the Senior Program Officer will serve as a generalist, working across each of the three program areas. The SPO will provide grantmaking expertise and leadership; develop, manage, and evaluate philanthropic investments; and represent the Foundation and its Directors to existing and prospective grant recipients and other external stakeholders. The Senior Program Officer will play a key role in identifying, developing, supporting, and evaluating potential grant recipients, partners and funding opportunities, and work with the Senior Program Directors to effectively communicate potential grants and their impact to the Directors and to the broader field. This work will be done through extensive conversation and network building with current and prospective grant recipients and leaders in the field.
