Water First Education & Training Inc. is a non-profit organization in Canada that focuses on addressing water challenges in Indigenous communities through education, training, and collaboration. Founded in 2009, the organization initially worked on bringing drinking water resources to schools in Uganda before shifting its focus to Indigenous communities in Canada in 2012. In 2016, Water First dedicated its work exclusively to collaborating with Indigenous communities. The organization's program delivery is centered around three key areas: Drinking Water, Environmental Water, and School Water, with a focus on aligning programming with the goals and needs of the communities they work with.Water First offers a range of programs, from 15-month internships and high school credit courses to multi-day programs and summer workshops, aimed at providing technical training and education for both youth and adults. The organization's goal is to support capacity building and sustained access to safe, clean water in Indigenous communities across Canada. Trainers, program delivery specialists, and support staff work in the field, remotely, and at the head office in Creemore, Ontario, collaborating with community partners, board members, and an Indigenous Advisory Council to ensure meaningful relationships and trust are at the core of their work.
