
The Director of Academic Labor Relations (DALR) is responsible for leading academic labor relations on campus and collaborating with the Vice Provost for Faculty Success on strategic approaches. This includes fostering positive relationships between academic employees, union representatives, supervisors, and administrators to support the institution's educational and research mission. The Director manages collective bargaining negotiations, contract interpretation, grievance responses, and employee separation agreements, and may represent the University at arbitration and mediation hearings. They also provide coaching and training for supervisors and managers in areas such as performance management and workplace interventions for academic employees.In addition to overseeing labor relations, the Director works collaboratively with various departments and offices within the University to address complex issues and arrive at fair and ethical solutions. They provide counsel to senior administrators, department heads, and supervisors to promote employee engagement and guide represented academic employee relations matters. The Director plays a key role in managing investigatory meetings, progressive discipline, and ensuring compliance with contracts, while also participating in a team-based environment to support a culture of positive and professional relationships within the academic community.
