The ETC is the premier professional graduate program for interactive entertainment, innovation, and storytelling across industries. The Director will build on the existing reputation and aspiration of this original and inspiring program. The ETC was founded in 1998 by two co-directors: Randy Pausch, a Computer Science professor (who later delivered his inspirational Last Lecture), and Don Marinelli, a Drama Professor. The ETC admitted its first class of students in 1999. Today, it is an interdisciplinary center offering a two-year Master of Entertainment Technology (MET) terminal degree. Currently, the ETC enrolls approximately 150 graduate students from a variety of backgrounds, inspired by a wide range of motivations and career ambitions, and employs 18 full time teaching track faculty and 3 special faculty, 6 adjuncts, and 13 staff. Reporting to the Dean of University Libraries, the Director will: Be willing to push boundaries of the program as it exists and in imagining its future. Understand, appreciate, and encourage the continued interdisciplinarity of the program focusing on opportunities to bring different disciplines together in programs and curriculum. Be an advocate for the role of a professional program within an academic research environment and engage in outreach and build institutional support for the ETC. Embrace both the technologic and artistic nature of entertainment design and the intersection of these approaches as both the historic basis for the ETC and in the pursuit of projects and initiatives supported by the ETC. Be ready and able to work with interdisciplinary faculty and students in a creative project-based learning environment. Be future focused in the exploration of platforms and technologies to help prepare students for the future and be willing to iterate and innovate in thinking about spaces, technology, and ideas. Work to attract industry collaborators in support of curriculum and student and faculty professional development.
