The Dean of the University Library is responsible for providing executive leadership in delivering library services to support the teaching and research mission of the university. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean manages the Library's personnel, budget, facilities, technology, and resources. This includes planning and administering the budget, recommending department chairs, and creating an environment conducive to research, scholarship, and academic excellence. The Dean also interprets and implements policies at the university and system levels, supervises a staff of professional, technical, and support personnel, seeks external support for programs and services, and maintains professional relationships with departments, colleges, and community groups.Additionally, the Dean participates in system-wide library initiatives, leads strategic thinking on academic technology and scholarly communication, and plays a crucial role in developing the university's information strategy. As a leader, the Dean demonstrates a commitment to student success, fosters an ethical and collaborative work environment, encourages a solution-oriented mindset, and participates in initiatives that support the university's mission. By being communicative and developing team attributes, the Dean strengthens employees and further advances departmental goals in alignment with the university's vision, values, and priorities.
