
The Dean of Libraries at Smith College oversees the planning, administration, personnel, fundraising, and development efforts to advance the Libraries' mission and operations. They are responsible for strategic planning, space planning, digital information services, teaching & learning programs, collection development & preservation, archives & special collections, evolving technology, and professional development for staff. The Dean directly manages a team of divisional directors and over 50 staff members, fostering a culture of collaboration within the organization and strong partnerships with faculty and departments across campus. The Dean of Libraries refines and implements a comprehensive vision for the Library that aligns with the mission of a liberal arts education, leads strategic planning and continuous improvement of Library services, and ensures that Library resources meet the evolving needs of students, faculty, and staff. They work closely with academic departments and campus units to support student learning and faculty scholarship, promote information literacy and research skills, and develop partnerships with campus departments and programs. Additionally, the Dean engages with the campus community to promote Library services and resources, represents the Library in broader academic and professional communities, and collaborates on fundraising and grants strategies to support Library development and initiatives.
