Seattle University (SU), a nationally ranked, independent, Jesuit and Catholic institution located in one of the worlds most socially and culturally vibrant and innovative cities, seeks its next Dean to serve as the chief academic and administrative leader of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). This is an opportunity for a transformative and visionary leader whose values align with the pursuit of inclusive academic excellence and critical inquiry, reflection on learning and values, community engagement, and preparing students for life as effective and ethical global citizens. The Dean will lead the College at a time of significant and exciting transformations university and college-wide in light of the Universitys Strategic Directions. The Dean will have the opportunity to lead a revision of the college strategic plan in the context of the Universitys goals and objectives and its upcoming capital campaign. Candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to the transformative power of a liberal arts education in the context of a dynamic university with a diverse and engaged student body and will have a record of advancing social justice in an academic setting. The next Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences will join a team of exceptional faculty, staff, and administrative leaders under the guidance of Provost Shane Martin. As its chief academic officer, the Dean will build upon the existing strengths of the CAS. The Dean will be a passionate advocate for the formative and transformative nature of the College of Arts and Sciences curriculum and proactively engage with faculty, staff, donors, alumni, and community partners in the Seattle area to amplify the presence, impact, and financial viability of the CAS. The incoming Dean of the CAS at Seattle University must be an excellent communicator and a visionary leader who thrives in a collaborative, high-energy, and dynamic campus culture. In the context of a Jesuit Institution with a commitment to anti-racism, equity, and inclusion, the Dean centers their work on the principles of excellence and justice upon which the University was founded. They must be a creatively minded leader who is energized by the opportunity to architect interdisciplinary initiatives, new programs, and co-curricular opportunities that support students to be leaders in a changing world. The next Dean must also be future-oriented and data-informed, analyzing trends in higher education and remaining attuned to the needs and demands of an ever-changing academic environment.
