Senior executives are cautiously optimistic for 2011, with an increased willingness to look for new job opportunities. This survey was conducted from Nov 22 – Dec 20 2010, and received 879 respondents, with 48% from the Americas, 37% from EMEA and 15% from Asia Pacific.
Senior Executives Cautiously Optimistic for 2011, Reporting Increased Competition for Jobs
BlueSteps survey finds 79% of senior-level executives ready to make a career move in 2011, but face new competition from younger executives
The BlueSteps 2011 Executive Outlook Report shows that just over 50% of global senior executives have a positive attitude about the job market in 2011, and 60% are positive about the business climate in general. While cautiously optimistic about the New Year, of those respondents who are currently employed, 79% reported that they plan to look for new career opportunities in 2011.
Do you plan to look for a new executive opportunity in 2011?
With executive mobility high in 2011, competition is also at a peak. 77% reported increased competition for senior-level executive positions compared with 5 years ago, up from 56% in a similar survey carried out in 2009. Not only has competition increased, it has also changed. 59% reported that they are now competing with younger executives, while 13% said they felt new competition from returning expats.
An increased level of competition for executives reinforces the need to be proactive in managing ones career, making it essential that executives know how to stand out from the crowd to attract the attention of recruiters and hiring organizations.
Peter Felix, President of the Association of Executive Search Consultants and BlueSteps comments: “With the economy rebounding and worldwide senior executive hiring on the rise, it is not surprising that executives now feel more comfortable in investigating new opportunities. However, increased competition means that executives must be particularly savvy about developing their personal brand, nurturing a vibrant network, and focusing on a well thought out career transition plan.”
